My name is Cassandra Calixte, and for the past eighteen years of my life, I have been living in Massachusetts. Currently, I reside in Leominster but I was originally raised in Revere. My life has been significantly impacted by a move away from school during the sixth grade. For the rest of my middle and high school career, I endured the challenge of traveling an hour and a half to school every day, which allowed me to develop adaptability and resilience, preparing me to succeed in academic spaces. At Agnes Scott, I plan on studying English, especially the world of literature, and using writing as a tool in my future career. I find it truly liberating that words can project experiences that allow people to become more conscious. More importantly, I can use my words to communicate across many industries which helps promote momentum in effective change. The potential of becoming a writer will be aided by attending an institution like Agnes Scott. Attending a liberal arts institution will fulfill my desire of becoming a multi-faceted writer rather than a one-dimensional writer, which will then give me the ability to become more applicable in multiple industries. After graduating, I intend on utilizing the power of language to promote collaboration and highlight diverse issues through journalistic and non-fiction writing.
